Excursion to Scottish Owl Centre

Sofia Soboleva is inviting you to visit Scottish Owl Centre on 15th of February. The centre is situated halfway from Edinburgh to Glasgow, in Whitburn. This is a unique place with the collection of around 1000 owls. There is no need to book the tour. Just turn up at the centre at 12pm. You will see a flying display of these beautiful birds. Display takes place in a barn so warm clothes are advisable.  Adult: £7.50, Child (age 3-15): £5.50, Concessions: £6.50, Family (2+2): £24, Groups (15+): £6.50/£4.50

Sofia and her daughter are then inviting you to the pottery painting studio Potter Around (from 13:30 to 15:00) situated in Kirknewton. The topic of the lesson is a decopatch. It is a great opportunity for children to learn something new and to be entertained. Light snack is provided by the club. Cost: £10.00

Celebrations of Languages and Cultures

Drummond Community High School is organising a very interesting event "Celebrations of Languages and Cultures".This event will take place on 23rd of February 2013 between 11.00 - 14.00 in concourse room. Various organisations and communities are going to participate in this event, including, Russian school, Chinese school, Turkish school, Polish school and many others.  It is expected, that this event will be visited by the representatives of Educational Authority. Professor Antonella Sorace will open the event and talk about benefits of bilingualism. Each organisation will have a Stall, national traditional food, music and poetry performances, art and craft stalls and many more.Our school choir (Choirmaster N.Perry) supported by parents will perform a few songs. Russian Edinburgh Art and craft table is organised by Anna Edovina and as always, children and parents will be involved into amazing educational and creative projects on Russian Language and Culture. Stall for Russian Edinburgh is organised by committee supported by parents.We would like to thank all parents who are willing to help with traditional national food stall. We encourage everyone who would like to participate in this event and bring a traditional dish of your country. Please contact committee if you wish to participate. All parents and children of Russian Edinburgh, as well as their guests, are welcome to come along to this "Celebration of Languages and Cultures" at Drummond Community High School.

Ceilidh

We would like to invite you for couple of hours of Ceilidh on the 17th of March. A good reason to have fun with your children. The event will be held in the hall of the German church, Laudate House at 1 Chalmers Crescent Edinburgh EH9 1TW. the programme will include Scottish dancing under the guidance of experienced instructors and tea during the break. Visitors can bring some biscuits to the tea.

Beginning at 14:00. Tea / coffee c 14:45 to 15:15

The event is for children from 5 years

Denis Alyshev - "Stereoscopic 3D Photography"

It's a unique 3D slide show in Scotland. Images were captured with a single-lens camera on a colour 35mm film applying a 3D technology invented in 1840. Slides will be projected on a silver screen using a custom-made dual projection system. You will see stereoscopic images taken in Japan, Russia, Switzerland, Sweden and Scotland. Polarised 3d glasses will be provided. Denis Alyshev is a Russian 3D photographer based in Glasgow since 2001. He is a member of Scottish Photographers (SP), Queen's Park Camera Club (QPCC), International Stereoscopic Union (ISU), National Stereoscopic Association (NSA). He is a regular guest-speaker at Scottish Photographic Federation and Glasgow District Photographic Union camera clubs.

November excursions

Many thanks to the Russian-speaking guide Tatyana Herries for the interesting excursion in Botanic Gardens. Children have learnt many interesting facts about trees, the botanic competition was a great fun too.

The excursion with Margarita Herries in National Museum of Scotland is now on 25th of November. Time: 14:00. Meeting point: After souvenir shop, at the car. Price: £1.00 per person. To book and pay please contact the administrator this Saturday. The excursion is in Russian.

Christmas Party 2012

We start selling tickets for the Christmas Party 2012. The party will take place on 16 December 2012, 11:00 – 14:00 in Teviot Debating Hall at Bristo Square, Edinburgh, EH8 9AJ

Lessons beginning

We hope that everyone had lovely Autumn holidays. Please be reminded that the lessons in Russian school start on the 27th of October as per our timetable

November excursions

In the next month we are planning two fascinating excursions with professional Russian guides. The first excursion will be conducted by Tatyana Herries on 3rd of November at 15:15 in Royal Botanic Garden.  For children of any age and their parents. Price: £1.00 per person. To book and pay please contact the administrator on 27th of October.

The second excursion is going to be led by Margarita Herries. Margarita will take children and their parents on interesting journey in National Museum of Scotland  (18 November at 11:00) Price: £1.00 per person. To book and pay please contact the administrator by 17th of November.

Each tour lasts no more than 1.5 hour. The excursions are in Russian.

Popular science lecture

We are continuing a series of lectures for  children over 11 years old and parents. Dr Oksana Morgunova introduced her book Russian presence in Britain last February. On 10th of November at 11:30 she will tell us about Russian art development in Britain. Free entrance. Resource room (ground floor)

Carnival film

Announcement from Science on Stage group. We hope you could make it this Saturday, 27th to the red auditorium of Summerhall at 7-30pm for the world-premiere of our chromosome carnival film by Paul Maguire. It's basically a half-hour film on the event of 31st of August on the meadows. It's big thanks to you and I hope you'll have a laugh. It's free and no more than 1 hour (film time 30 min).

Fees

Dear parents! Please be reminded that the school fees must be paid before 15th of September. Those who have not paid won’t be permitted to the lessons. Your child will be able to resume the lessons if there are still spaces available in his/her group.

General Parents' Meeting

You are invited to attend a General Parents' meeting which will take place this Saturday, 15 September from 11:30 until 12:45 in the ESOL room (first floor, next to the Information desk).  We will be discussing the school agenda, changes in the school etc. We will be glad to see you.

After school clubs

Russian Edinburgh offers your child three afterschool clubs.

The Exam group is for the children of the classes Rozochki and Beta. The aim of this class is to prepare for the test Intermediate 1 Russian. The teacher is Alisa Kuzmitskaya. This exam will be taken in Russian school. The class is now full. Fee for this term is £20.00 per person. The lessons will take place in ML1 from 12:45 until 13:55.

Maths and Nature is a club aimed for children age 6 and above has started last Saturday. There are still spaces available in this club. Please book if interested. This club is offered free this term. The sessions are conducted by teachers Alexander and Elena Belyaev. Time and place:  from 12:45 until 13:45 in room ML3.

Choir Singing club is scheduled to start on 27th of October, first Saturday after Autumn holidays. The club is aimed for children aged 6 to 11. The children will sing Russian children’s and traditional  folk songs and take part in concerts. On the 6th of October, last Saturday before the autumn break, Natalia Perrie will conduct an audition for the children who want to sing in the choir. Please ensure that your child has prepared one verse of his/her favourite song. We need one volunteer parent each lesson to help with the discipline. The rotation schedule for volunteers must be agreed prior to the club start date.  The singing club will take place in the Art room from 12:45 to 13:45. Fee per term is  £20.00 per person.

School rules for pupils and parents

Russian Edinburgh aims to provide a healthy, safe, happy and positive environment for students and their parents /guardians/carers. High standards of behaviour are important in helping students to feel safe and learn well, and parents/guardians/carers play a key part in this. Therefore every student and their parent will receive a hard copy of the Rules which they must read and sign. As any other document related to Russian school, the Rules will be published on our website in the Members only section so you are able to refer to them when you have any questions.

Joining fee

Please be informed that every new student has to pay a joining fee of £25.00.

Timetable

Lessons in most groups will be held from 10:00 to 12:45. The timetable is going to be published on our website by 1st of September.

Please ensure that your child has a breakfast before arrival to Russian School. If necessary please provide your child with a drink and a snack (nuts and food containing nuts are prohibited).

The Russian Edinburgh School constantly requires enthusiastic and energetic people able to devote their time to the benefit of the school. Please let us know if you are willing to participate in individual projects such as, for example, the organisation of interesting meetings, educational tours, the Christmas party, and/or as an assistant librarian, curator, a representative on the Committee etc. With your help we can do more good and beneficial things for our children!

Third term fees

Russian Edinburgh is funded through membership fees and donations. Membership fees are paid 3 times a year before the beginning of each term.

Membership fees for the third term must be paid in full by 07/04/2012 (via bank transfer)

Please ensure your child's place in a group by paying prior to the above date.  After 07/04/2012 spaces will be filled with those who are currently on the waiting list. Сhess games for children


We would like to organise chess games for the children of Russian school. It will give them a chance to practice and gain experience in this game. If we have enough participants, we could have a chess tournament on 15th of April at the Easter picnic in Roslin Glen Country Park.
